I'm just like you!

Jane

Jane - April Lindner lovely contemp retelling

Take a Bow

Take a Bow - Elizabeth Eulberg adorable and fluffy (but not too fluffy) and lovely!
Girl Out Loud - Emily Gale Didn't finish this book. I tried!! The first 50 wasn't doing anything for me but I gave it another 50 because I was told it would approach more emotional issues but yeah, I gave up after 100. I ended up going to the back and skimming the end to see what happens (I haven't done that for a book for like.. years) and I'm not too upset about marking this as DNF. The main reason I couldn't get into the book is that it felt too "young" for me. The instant messaging with chatspeak made me extremely irritated and there were scenes like Kass talking about this 'dreamboat' boy that I felt I had.. outgrown. I like reading books that connect with me as a reader and I just couldn't do it with this novel and this protagonist. I had some interest in what was going to go down with her family but not enough, unfortunately. I think Kassidy's voice is unique though so I wouldn't mind recommending it to others, it just really wasn't the book for me.

Second Chance Summer

Second Chance Summer - Morgan Matson It was good, kind of what I expected, but I didn't really love it. The romance wasn't really there for me, and honestly, neither were the characters. I did like the overall vibe of the story, but sometimes the subplots were overpowering. But still a good read.

The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby - F. Scott Fitzgerald I really enjoyed this. I read it slowly, carefully, because well, I'm not reading it for school (admittedly, I may or may not have been reading this in anticipation for the December film). I don't really know how to explain my thoughts, I know I want to practice reading more analytically though.I really loved the writing. Really, I did. It's very different than whatever "norm" I read, and it makes me eager to read more books like this. Flowing, complex, beautifully crafted prose.Yes, I'd recommend this book too. Eh, I wish I had more to write here.

Insurgent (Divergent Series #2)

Insurgent (Divergent Series #2) - ... It wasn't as good as i hoped. messy plot, some inconsistencies, and I had the same problem I did with Divergent-- I just didn't really care about the characters. However, there's still action and it's still an enjoyable, fast read. http://holes-in-my-brain.blogspot.com/2012/05/br-insurgent.html

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)

Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) - Mindy Kaling loved this! pretty hilarious, easy to read, and simply entertaining :) highly recommended, I don't think i was ever bored.

Bright Before Sunrise

Bright Before Sunrise - Tiffany Schmidt So... Courtney Summers gave this 5 stars. *adds to to-reads shelf*

Beautiful

Beautiful - Amy Reed I really didn't like it at first, but it got a little bit better. I'm not seeing much of the genius of the book that others are, and I never really liked Cassie. Sure, you can be realistic and make realistic dumb decisions, but I just hated her stupidity so much which made it hard to even stand her as a character. and she's 13 which made the whole story feel wildly unrealistic in my mind. 2.5/5

Pink

Pink - Lili Wilkinson funny, SMART characters; fantastic, WITTY dialogue and just an overall FUN story. A few issues with plot and pacing, but I did end up adoring the cast and the writing and the nerdfighter-level awesome of Pink :)

Code Name Verity

Code Name Verity - Elizabeth Wein I might change it to 4 stars later, but as the story is spinning in my brain, it's getting 5.Simply a remarkable story, both in plot and its extraordinary characters. I was shocked multiple times as pieces fell together and new facts were revealed. It's a beautiful novel of friendship and the brutalities of war, of survival, hope, and so much more. It kind of made me cry. Just a wee bit. So, so good.

Promised (Birthmarked Trilogy)

Promised - Caragh M. O'Brien Full review to comeI liked this one a lot. But I had my issues, it felt like this series never felt completely coherent. I loved the fact that Promised makes me think, it's definitely welcoming discussion. 'villains' are beautifully portrayed as morally sound yet twisted in their own way. Romance kind of lacking, plot dragged at times. The ending was all right. Characters were interesting, but sometimes a few too many minor ones. Like Angie, Jack, Will, etc. Certain parts made me queasy, that was well done. So it wasn't really what I was expecting but still a solid final installment. It never reclaimed the fire that Birthmarked had, IMO. 3.5/5

This Is Not a Test

This is Not a Test - Courtney Summers she's done it again (how does she do it?)flawless writing.gut-wrenching characters, real characters.angst. sadness. so much pain. I'm totally drained from reading this, but it was brilliant.

Black Heart (Curse Workers Series #3)

Black Heart - Holly Black 4.5/5 brilliant, original, dangerously awesome. Fantastic end to the trilogy
Spell Bound - Rachel Hawkins EEEP SO GOOD :) :) fantastic writing as always, I had a few minor issues with plot, but overall, such an awesome conclusion :D

Bitterblue

Bitterblue - I can't exactly give it 5 stars, but it was such a wonderful read. perhaps not the best book to start when your psych midterm is in 3 days, but, well, let's just say I couldn't put it down. I've now carved out a special place for Kristin Cashore in my YA-authors-I-adore part in my heart.Full review to come, and again, a huge, huge thank you to Rachel for letting me borrow her ARC!
